August Sponsor Love

It's an end of the month instead of a mid-month sponsor love post this month! Please take a few minutes to check out these awesome blogs, shops, and products.

Recently Edi added a fabulous new item to her shop: personalized wooden spoons. These spoons make fabulous gifts for weddings, showers, and house warming parties.

Angela of AngleAh
I love the idea of using buttons to decorate candle holders.

Valerie of additionsstyle
How neat is this simple leather choker? I always love the versatility of Valerie's jewelry.

Deb of storybeader
I always learn something from Deb's Alphabe Thursday posts. This post about the National Register for Historic Places was no exception.

Tiffany of Ribbon Lane Supplies
Of course these polka dots are so awesome. I don't have so say much else about this offering.

Kristen of Milo and Molly
Kristen shared a few recipes that she made this month, including this mouth watering Chex Mix.

Paige of Little Nostalgia
If you're getting the itch to buy some school supplies this time of year even though you're not actually going back to school, check out Paige's adult back to school supplies picks.

I hope that you found some useful resources here today!

August Mid-Month Sponsor Love

I'm celebrating the middle of the month with a shout out to all of my lovely sponsors!

Edi recently designed some brand new tandem bike items, including this cute wedding guestbook.

Jamie attended BlogHer 2013 and has been sharing her new blogging and social media insight on her blog, such as tips for improving on Instagram.

Linda of PruittCreations
Linda's sepia brown newsprint hair clips are simple and versatile.

Angela of AngleAh
Angela's brass flower ring is another simple, versatile piece.

Valerie of additionsstyle
Valerie's copper chain bracelet is a great fit with virtually any wardrobe.

Deb of storybeader
Deb has gotten to enjoy this imagination playground in her area this month.

Pick  up a set of grosgrain chevron ribbons for your fall crafts.

Check out the progress that Paige and her husband have made with their home this past year! They have accomplished so much.

Kristen of Milo and Molly
I think that Kristen and I would get along in real life. She put together a great post about being an introvert earlier this month. Ironically enough, this image HAS been putting a smile on my face ever since I first read her post. I cannot even tell you how many times that has happened to me over the years.

I hope that you found some useful resources today!

What's Up For August

Yep, we're several days into August, and I'm still a little bit in denial about that. Moving forward...

What's going on this month?
  • I hit a huge milestone on HubPages the first week of August: 1 million views. It took me 2 years and 4 months to achieve this stat. To date I have 286 articles published there. I am really proud of many of the things I've been able to accomplish these last couple years with my freelance career, but this is definitely way up there on that list.
  • I've been staying ahead of my ambitious task list for opening a new Etsy shop for photography on Labor Day weekend 2013. This month is going to be the final push. I'm planning a huge giveaway to kick things off for the grand opening so get excited about that.
  • I've been part of a product descriptions writing group off and on since December and I got to write for a handful of huge orders for that this past month, which played a large role in July being my highest earning freelance month to date. I've had a steady stream of work from additional clients, too, which didn't hurt either. I'm looking forward to using some of those funds for new photography equipment and some of the supplies I need (i.e. new business cards, packing materials) for the new Etsy shop.
  • I am still fully enjoying everything that summer has to offer and am determined to use this month to soak up as much of it as I can. I've ticked off quite a few of the "to do" destinations / random pursuits on my summer photography list and am determined to fit in a few more while the weather is still great. Jake and I have some fun social activities planned as well as a mini long weekend trip.

Think about joining my blog sponsors!
I have a great round up of blog sponsors! These lovely ladies all have Etsy shops and/or blogs. Check them out on the left hand side of my blog under "Private Sponsors." Would you like to join them? It's only $3 per month or $10 for 4 months to advertise with me. Check out all of the details about it right here

It means so much to me that so many people take the time to read my blog and leave such thoughtful feedback on a regular basis. Here's to another great month!

Would you like to join them?  It's only $3 per month or $10 for 4 months to advertise with me.  Check out all of the details about it right here.

Bring it on September!
  • In August, I had my fourth ever article chosen for Hub of the Day: Cooking Live Lobsters: How to Host a Live Lobster Party. (Please spare me your commentary about whether cooking live lobsters is humane or not. That is NOT why I wrote this.) I had hopes of reaching 24 articles like I did in July but didn't come anywhere close to that, largely because I did so much writing elsewhere. It's good to keep diversifying, and my views and earnings were still up so it worked out just fine. This month will probably look similar for writing.
  • My new freelance opportunities this month were amazing. At least one of them is still going strong for this month, which is very exciting. It's great to have that regular work flow and not have to search for new projects every day.
  • We were just as busy in August as we were in July with social activities, which was great. September has gotten off to a pretty busy start, too. It's really nice to have a M-F schedule now that allows for that.
  • My first fall show is in a little over a month. I need to ramp up my greeting card production and go full force with a couple other craft fair projects during September. I applied for two big shows this year and got accepted to one of them a couple weeks ago: the UW-Parkside Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair. I now have 6 shows scheduled for the fall/holiday season. I'm not prepared for how busy that is going to be, but it will sink in soon enough. I will keep listing on Etsy every week throughout September, too.

voting for the August EBW challenge

Voting is up and running for the August EBW Challenge Hot Hot Hot!  Voting takes place on the EBW blog through August 15.  If you can't see all of the entries, head over here.  The mosaic is clickable.  Please check out all of the entries and vote for your favorite.

Some of you may remember that the July Challenge was Tangerine Tango.  I participated with this bright orange bangle.  It was amazing to create this vivid piece, but I wasn't feeling inspired to work with this palette again so shortly.  This is the first challenge I've skipped in months, and it's a little surreal, but I'll be back to participate in another challenge this year I'm sure.

Of course there are still lots of amazing entries for Hot Hot Hot.  If they won't inspire you for the end of summer, I don't know what will.  Here are just a few of my favorites.

Hot Hot Hot - EBWC August 2012 Challenge by zviagil

One Coot HOT Peacock Bead Embroidery Bracelet EBWC Reserved for CAT by 4uidzne

Hot herringbone necklace - transformer with red art-glass bead by Svetush

Hanging Chili Peppers Necklace - EBWC - Real HOT August 2012 Midwest Drought by ArtMasquerading

Has the hot summer weather inspired your art lately?

July Top Droppers and Commenters and August News

As I'm not teaching right now, I didn't think that I would be so excited about summer, but school schedule or not, summer is still the best.  It's hard to believe that we only have a month of it left.  We're going to do our best to enjoy it as much as we can.

SALE...or not?
I'm still in the process of clearing out my Christmas in July sale items and haven't made up my mind what kind of sale I want to run next.   If there is something that you want to see, let me know!  Otherwise I may give it a rest for a few months and then gear up again for the holidays.

Blog Sponsors and July Advertising:
I have an awesome round up of blog sponsors!  These lovely ladies all have Etsy shops and/or blogs.  Check them out on the left hand side of my blog under "Private Sponsors."

Would you like to join them?  It's only $3 per month or $10 for 4 months to advertise with me.  Check out all of the details about it right here.

Bring it on August!
  • The HubPages Apprenticeship program is continuing to go well.  I'm getting in a better groove with my revamped writing style for the program and reached my goal of writing 24 HubPages articles for July.  I usually average 10-15 articles per month there so this was a stretch.  We'll see if I can meet it again this month. I had second article chosen for Hub of the Day this month, Button Craft Project Ideas: How to Make Easy Crafts with Buttons, on July 30 so that was a great way to end the month.
  • It was every bit as amazing as I thought it would be having Jake on a M-F schedule and getting to revamp my own schedule to match that this past month.  We did so many fun social things in July.  August will be a little less busy, which is fine.  We still have some great plans in the works.  I'll be posting more about that as it develops.
  • I'm not planning to do any more shows until October and am not planning any big promotions on Etsy until then so I'm putting some of my shop agenda on the back burner for a couple months.  I will still be creating and listing at least one new item on Etsy every week, but I'm not setting much of a schedule otherwise.  I am still trying to stay ahead with card making, but there's no reason to stress out or burn out on making other show items at this point
  • I've picked up a couple new writing clients and another new writing opportunity this past month.  Those of you who do freelance work know how nice it is to have regular work every week, which cuts down on some of the constant work searching that you have to do.
What's going on with your business and/or blog for July?
