Scavenger Hunt on Monday (3/4/13)

As it's still tough to get outside and take a lot of pictures for the Scavenger Hunt every week, I've contemplated challenging myself to shoot an entire set with my light box. The week's set of prompts were a perfect opportunity to take up this challenge. Enjoy.

1) Red

The first photo is a perfect example of what I would typically do with this shot. I am thrilled that I've developed a successful aesthetic for shots like this that I can produce consistently. However, I decided to challenge myself a little with this particular subject and see what else I could do with it.

The tone here is a little brighter than I'd ultimately like, but I'm proud of myself for experimenting with the sharp factor. I'm sure it's not a surprise that I love blurred backgrounds and softer photos in general, but there is something about the sharp buttons all the way through this photo that I love, too.

2) Orange

I was just having a discussion with a fellow crafter recently about how much we love these little dagger beads. As I was taking this photograph, I kept thinking about a tropical / summer version of my rock garden design.

3) Yellow

This is a retake of one of my classic light box shots, this time with the SLR. You can see the original version here.

4) Green

I love using ribbon for my greeting cards. I have more green shades than almost any other color. How can you not love the zig zag pattern? I have that design in several other colors, too. 

5) Blue

I have...a lot of scissors, but somehow both of my desk pairs (that aren't for fabric / thread cutting) are blue. I've had the darker pair since I started undergrad. They've seen better days, but they're good for rougher paper project jobs (cutting through contact paper, cutting double sided tape, etc.).

I know that most people are really sick of snow by now, myself included. Unfortunately we still have a lot of it on the ground. Good thing it's pretty.

Also, I shared this photo on Facebook recently and thought that my readers here would enjoy it as well. This is the first photo that I got with all three of our kitties. I know that Angel doesn't look too thrilled, but she's come a long way already.

Scavenger Hunt on Monday (1/14/13)

Welcome to another edition of the Scavenger Hunt! Between traveling, holiday happenings, and cold weather, I've been way out of my sync with this weekly photo post lately. It felt good to start getting back in that groove this week. Enjoy!

1) Outside

I'm using this photo for I Heart Macro this week.

It hit 46 degrees on Friday, and I got a few pictures outside, which was a really welcome change of pace.

2) Backside

I took this picture from the backside of our house. I don't know where I come up with these ideas sometimes, but I love the result here.

3) Little Things

I've finally caved and started to buy a few of my favorite movies that I once owned on VHS and that have never come to instant play on Netflix. I can't believe that I've only watched this a couple times during the last few years. That's going to change now.

4) A Cup Of...

My brother and his girlfriend got us some of this tea for Christmas. The Stash peach tea has been my favorite peach tea for quite a few years, but I like this one even more.

5) Reflect

So I bought some Steve Madden boots this week. Can it still count as a late Christmas present?

Since we adopted the kittens, they've been hogging the spotlight a little bit. We certainly haven't forgotten about Angel, though, and make sure that she gets special attention every day, too.

Scavenger Hunt on Monday (1/7/13)

Welcome to another travel edition of the Scavenger Hunt! I'm sharing more photos from our trip to San Antonio last month for the prompts this week. Please tell me that I'm not the only person is not very motivated to take a lot of photos on these dark winter days, even around the house. Hopefully we'll get a few sunnier, warmer days this next month, and I'll be inspired to do a few new photo sessions. For now, enjoy a few more of my vacation pictures.

1) Breakfast

We stayed with some friends in San Antonio. Their dog, Vi, was our little breakfast buddy every day.

2) Multi-colored

I shared a number of my favorite Christmas decoration pictures from the trip already, but this is another gem.

Also, I Heart Macro is back! I'm submitting this photo for it this week.

3) Starts with the letter C

We visited the state capital building in Austin.

4) Roll

I take kind of a ridiculous number of duck pictures on every vacation. That's just how I roll.

5) Future

People are making decisions for the future, even during the holidays.

Scavenger Hunt and I Heart Macro on Monday (11/19/12)

Welcome to another edition of the photo Scavenger Hunt and I Heart Macro!

1) Vision

Jake and I don't wear any kind of glasses or contacts, but this little guy does. You can get your own over here.

2) Strong

I've been making lots of button magnets and rings this past week for my final 2012 holiday shows, which has involved using a lot of E-6000.

3) Buttons

These bracelet design has been doing well this fall so I've been photographing and tagging all of the newer button bracelets that have been sitting in my "to photograph" box forever. Whatever doesn't sell during the next few weeks will be available in my shop by early 2013. Let me know if there is anything that you want.

I'm also using this as my photo for I Heart Macro this week.

4) Map

It drives me crazy how many people rely solely on GPS and smartphone devices to get driving directions. It is very difficult to learn your way around a new place that way. This is almost always what my directions look like when I'm going somewhere new. I look up the directions and check the map before I write down the directions.

5) Favorite Fruit

I took this picture back in the summer when the fresh fruit choices were much more abundant. This one of my favorite guilty summer pleasures: fruit with sour cream.

Scavenger Hunt and I Heart Macro on Monday (11/12/12)

Welcome to another edition of the photo Scavenger Hunt and I Heart Macro!

1) Nature

I took a much needed mini excursion to the lake front on Friday after I set up for my weekend craft show. More details on the show as well as more pictures from that excursion coming soon.

I'm also using this for I Heart Macro this week.

2) Vintage or Retro

I know that I have featured our china cabinet and crazy collection of inherited pieces that reside in it a bunch of times before, but we don't have a lot of vintage or retro pieces. Plus how can you ever get tired of little vintage coffee cups in such great condition?

3) Whimsical

People tell me all the time that buttons are whimsical. I put in a large chunk of time making new button magnets and rings (as well as glass magnets) before my show this past weekend. The good news is that it paid off and I'll be making a bunch more small button items this next week for my remaining 2012 shows.

4) Cooking

Normally if I'm making something special for breakfast, it's bacon or sausage and eggs. Jake wanted to do something different this week so I whipped up some French toast.

5) Week's Best

Surprise, right? This is actually from more than a week ago, but who is counting? And yes, all of that "garbage" in the background is for Angel and has become a new coveted spot. The large fur patch around the poll is still an indication that she hasn't given up that obsession, though.
