I'm Not a Pilot at Regner Park

As many of you know, just one of the numerous fun things to do in Milwaukee during the summer is listen to live music, often for free and outdoors. While I've heard a number of bands here over the past few years, most often I'm checking out an event because I'm Not a Pilot is there. The inaugural Homegrown festival at Regner Park in West Bend, WI last month was no exception.

Does anyone else like to get out and listen to live music during the summer?

Saturday is Caturday

As promised, I'm bringing back Caturday and catching up on my huge backlog of kitty smartphone pictures. I have months of photos to go through, which means that you won't see Hobbes in these round ups any time soon, but he will make an appearance in these posts eventually. Enjoy.

Boerner Botanical Gardens in the summer

I'm so glad that I was able to get out to the Boerner Botanical Gardens right here in Milwaukee this summer on a beautiful day in early July to admire and photograph just a few of their many gorgeous plants and flowers.

Check out what I was photographing at the Boerner Botanical Gardens back in 2013.

What local attractions have you been frequenting (and photographing) this summer?

4th of July Boat Ride

Jake's birthday is July 3, which means that many years we end up doing something over the 4th of July holiday with family and friends to celebrate both his birthday and Independence Day. This year is the big 3-0 so we're actually doing multiple birthday events throughout week, which included an Edelweiss Cruise along the Milwaukee River on July 4th. The big downtown fireworks show is on July 3 so we avoided those crowds and still had plenty of time to get to a fireworks show in the suburbs that night.

A boat tour is such a fun way to enjoy your city, even if it's a place that you've lived for years. If you live in Milwaukee or are ever visiting the area, put it on your list of things to do.

introducing Hobbes

Introducing the newest member of my kitty clan, Hobbes.

He's from the Wisconsin Humane Society, he's three months old, and he came with the name. Another male orange tabby kitten with a great name seemed like a good fit for us and our boys.

This guy has an insane amount of energy, even for a kitten. Apollo and Ares had an insane amount of energy as kittens and still do as adult cats but Hobbes is on a whole different level. To give you an example, the only way he'll fall asleep when people are around is in someone's lap. Otherwise he's way too excited to calm down on his own. Apollo and Ares never went through anything that extreme.

It's been an adjustment for all of us, but so far things are going well. I'm ending this post with a little round up of first Hobbes cell phone pictures. When he's awake, he almost never stops moving and he's always interested in me and my camera, which has made it hard to get a lot of shots with the DSLR. Consequently, even most of these cell phone shots are of Hobbes sleeping.

I know that it's been months since I've shared any pictures of Apollo and Ares on the blog. I have a huge backlog of cell phone snaps, and I hope to start posting them again at some point soon.
