pilgrimage to Holy Hill

Last month I made a little excursion to the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians at Holy Hill, most commonly referred to as simply Holy Hill or Holy Hill Basilica. I can't believe that it took me four years to get up there, but I'm so glad that I finally did. These pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the architecture or the stunning views from the area, but I hope that they give you a little taste of it.

Holy Hill has a scenic tower that you can climb up May through October, weather permitting. As it has 178 stairs and open windows (no screens), it isn't for the faint of heart, but it's well worth it if you can make the climb and aren't afraid of heights.

Can you see the buildings way off in the distance? That's downtown Milwaukee.

Have you visited any new to you places in your area this summer?
