I'm so excited about this new photo props series. I've also written ideas for winter, Easter, and Christmas and have spring and summer in the works. Other suggestions? Let me know!
This is a surprisingly tough topic to research. I would like to write more articles like this, especially for Milwaukee, but my options have been somewhat limited. I'll keep expanding on this concept as I can.
You can also check out what I put together last year.
How do you feel about Valentine's Day? What have you been putting together this year for it?

The photo prop articles are a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWe don't do much for Valentine's Day, but I am preparing a few items for my shop :)
I can't remember Valentine's Day being a big deal during my highschool years. I was only aware of it once I started working in an office! All the secretaries got huge bunches of flowers ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love hearts, so I kinda love this day :)
I'm not much on Valentine's Day either. I remember it being fun in elementary school, making the box that hold your valentines. When I was in sixth grade, one boy gave me 23 valentines. It was quite a sensation and became a source of amusement to my friends even into high school.
ReplyDeleteI always thought valentines day was for kids. Like SweetPostyDreams, I remember making holders for valentines in elementary school. then nothing much happened in High School, unless you had a boyfriend, which I did not! Then when I married, my husband was very diligent and sweet to always bring home a big heart filled with chocolates from the local chocolate store. Come to think of it, my dad did that for my mom! It was fun!
ReplyDeleteI love all the hearts and flowers that get bandied about up until Valentine's Day. I also wholeheartedly applaud the sentiment of the day.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't like is the reality of the actual day when it comes in all it's tacky hyperbole.
I like Valentine's Day, mostly because I like to get craftsy with the kiddos for their class valentines. =0) Other than that, we don't celebrate too much and never have, really. But I think it's fun for the younger kids to celebrate and be excited about. I know I always remember the classroom parties from grade school. With all the academic expectations that the kids face now, it's nice to have little celebrations that are fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photo prop ideas - I'm off to check it out now.

Valentine's day doesn't get much play in my house as we've been married too many years now! But you've got some great ideas for those people still out there wanting to mark it as a special day!
ReplyDeleteI remember those awful high school feelings - but that's what makes it so nice now that I have the Ogre. Congrats on the success of your lovely article! ;D
ReplyDeleteI love all the hearts and colors in the stores now and of course I love love! I see it as more light hearted and fun but I can understand the singles side because my boss hates that day but yet she's never been in love so hates when we celebrate anniversaries or anything love related.
ReplyDeletegood idea about what to do in a big city. But it's got to be big or you won't get enough hits. I guess you don't have to live in the city to write the article. Just do the research. Sounds fun! {:-D
ReplyDeleteGreat post on Valentine's Day, Rose! Your articles are awesome, too! I hope they do well!
ReplyDeleteI'm not real big on Valentine's Day either. A card for my husband and one for each of my kids at the very most is all I do
ReplyDeleteI'm with you- we aren't big on V-day around here either. I guess we're both not too lovely dovey. But I do like the crafty side of it!
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate much either. We call it a Hallmark holiday! We prefer to have the "love" vibe all year long.
ReplyDeleteI've never been crazy about V Day--especially in high school when there were flowers coming in all day--and as a high school teacher, too! My boyfriend and I don't make a big deal of it, but we might get a card or write a little rhyme. Sometimes we might pick up a stuffed animal that gets our attention. The best Valentine's Days were in elementary school when we got little cards from everyone!
ReplyDeleteRose- Ya know, I have always loved Valentine's Day but pretty much only because there are hearts involved and hearts make such cute crafts, LoL! I totally get what you mean about the experiences in high school, I don't even like to think back on those years.. they were AWFUL!! Honestly though, I can't believe you didn't have a sweetheart, as pretty as you are. Now, off to read your hub :)
ReplyDeleteI've been wandering in and out of your links! such a wealth of information!
ReplyDeletehmmm...Valentine's Day is OK. My hubby likes cards, so he'll give me one and I will, of course, reciprocate. He'll give me chocolate, too. (He's a sweetie and a keeper!)
A few years ago, I made some very untraditional Valentine's cards and gave them to a few family members.
The bad that I remember about Valentine's Day was in grade school. We'd all decorate boxes. On the day, kids would go about the room distributing their cards into the boxes of their chosen ones. How humiliating it could be not to get cards from some kids! These days rules are generally given that if you give a card to one kid you give to all.
In elementary school, I can remember exchanging Valentines with friends, but it wasn't all that big of a deal. Now that I am married, I must say that my husband brings me lovely flowers every V-Day, and I quite like that! One of the fun things that I did when our son was young was to make a Valentine's Day pocket out of fabric that I hung on his doorknob, filled with treats. When he woke up in the morning, it was waiting for him!
