Celebrating Memorial Day

Many of you know that I live close to the VA grounds in Milwaukee and visit them regularly. One of my favorite times to stroll through the grounds is Memorial Day weekend. As you look through these photos, I'm sure that you'll understand why.

How are you celebrating Memorial Day this year?

  1. Beautiful, silent, and sad. The grave stones seem to go on forever, no matter where you are.

  3. So great to see these vets honored today and every day. Just wish there weren't so many of them!

  4. There's something so beautiful and yet so tragic and sad about military memorials. The sheer number of graves always makes me catch my breath. I don't know if you've ever been over to Europe to Belgium and France and visited any of the 1st World War memorials but the scale of the numbers of dead there are literally breathtaking. Giant memorials that are ten or twenty feet high literally covered with names of the fallen, with the names no more than an inch high. Truly moving.

  6. Wow - what a lot of flags! Great photos, too. We saw a lot of activity at a military cemetery down the road, but I didn't think of stoping in to take pictures.

  7. How beautiful, in a haunting way. I visited Arlington National Cemetery a couple of years ago and it's shocking how many graves are there. We were taking a tram from one part of the cemetery to another and the grave stones just kept going and going...

  8. Last year I visited National Cemetery as well... and it was such an admirable and definatelly not forgettable experiences! Especially the part of changing guards so heartwarming and i think everyone should experiences in the lifetime. Militaries/veterans memories should and need to be preserved and celebrated!

  9. Great Memorial Day photos for such a bittersweet holiday. It's so nice to celebrate our freedom but at the same time, look at what we lost to get it.
