a throwback photo share: the last 12 days of summer 2009

I'm not sure what got me thinking about the summer of 2009 recently, but as my last 12 days of summer 2009 happened this time five years ago, I got inspired to share it here on a blog. Somehow I never did share those photos here because back then I mostly stuck to sharing beads, jewelry, and Etsy related matters. So here we go.

I spent the last 12 days of the summer of 2009 before the 09-10 school year started (I was teaching back then, remember?) traveling over 1,100 miles for some family happenings and a college friend's wedding. It's one of the last times that I got to visit my undergrad campus and one of the longest periods that I've spent in Chicago during the past decade. It was also the most time that I ever spent driving by myself in a two week period.

What were you doing during the summer of 2009?

  1. Great pictures! I remember doing the Project 365 in 2009 and it seems like yesterday, yet it was five years ago! Time sure does fly.

Are those church pictures of Valparaiso University? My daughter spent her first four years of college there, which is very close to where we live now. Well, at least me. She lives in Texas.

    1. Yep, the church pictures and the one below them of the library are of Valparaiso University, which is where I went for my undergrad degree.

    2. That's right! I think I remember you mentioning something about that. Were you there when my daughter was there? She was there from 2006-2009. I don't know how old you are, she's 28. I think she took a year off somewhere because she graduated high school in 2004.

    3. I know that we talked about it at some point, but it's been a while. I was there from 2001-2006. I'm 31.

    4. Yes, it's coming back to me! I think you were both there in 2006. I'm old, I forget easily. If it weren't for my calendar or notepads, I'd never get anything right.

  2. Woah - those are some crazy cool buildings! What is the structure under the picture of the flowers? I can't tell if it's a building, a bridge, or maybe some huge sculpture.

  3. What fabulous architecture! It was fun seeing your photos from back then - you've always had a great eye!

  4. Looks like a fun-filled time! Big cities always have amazing modern architecture! I love the idea of blowing bubbles instead of throwing rice at the married couple :)

  5. What a fun photo share! It's so great to capture these parts of our lives.
Love the windows in the church! And I laughed at the Macarana picture :)

  6. Woooo! Chicago! In the summer of 2009 my big events were getting married and going on our honeymoon. :-) I can't believe it was already five years ago.
