photo outtakes

I'm sharing another round of photo outtakes today. I'm making this a more regular feature for the foreseeable future. I think that it's really important to discuss the fact that I take a ton of photos to get a few gems. Also, while I keep improving my skills, I still make a lot of mistakes. Here are just a few examples of my recent outtakes.

This shot is way too angled. I did get one with a better angle.

Auto focus fail of one of my friend's kiddos at the zoo.

Another focus fail. These little guys move so quickly that it's really tough to use manual focus and auto focus just wasn't cutting it so well either.

Blurry mess with a long exposure.

That shadow is my camera lens hood. Awesome.

Do you ever have dark shots where there is basically nothing on the histogram? That's what happened here.

The shadowing here created a very muddled composition.

Totally the wrong angle.  Way too much shadowing.

Total fail on this sign at the state fair. I did get a few better shots of the signs.

Complete wash out of Lake Michigan. (Did you see the recent shots of the lake that did make the cut?)

Don't be afraid to share your outtakes once in a while! It makes everyone feel better.

  1. Heya Rose!

I love that you are sharing your outtakes! It shows that you are a confident person and photographer.

Photography is a skill I'd like to learn but am sort of afraid of being completely sucked in by it...get addicted! I guess there are worse things to become addicted to! ;)

  2. Outtakes will be a fun feature -- I could definitely share a LOT (maybe I will)!! Even big-time professional photographers would have goof ups -- I wonder if they share them!!

  3. Shadows and focus are my two worst enemies when it comes to photography! The blurry shot of the river/creek still looks pretty cool :)

  4. Back in the days a decade or more ago when pros were using slide film I was told by one of them that nobody could be considered a PHOTOGRAPHER until 3 large garbage bags were filled with throw away photos.
I found you on the blog team on etsy.

  5. I hate when autofocus ruins a shot I had high hopes for! Fun outtakes. It's always nice to see those 'fails,' too, ya know?

  8. I am not a photographer but I do have a decent cameral so once in a while I try to play "photographer" and end up with some of those shots! Good to know its not me being an amateur, it happens to the best of us! :)

  9. I like that you show us your goofs! I feel like photography is actually kind of hard, but with all of the gorgeous pictures in blog land, it's easy to forget.

  10. I got some fails in Hawaii and it's always disappointing but you help me realize it's normal. Some of my fails are very similar to yours!
