sometimes a simple fix is the best fix

I'm honestly not sure if this happened at some point during our move to Milwaukee or if it happened before that, but this poor lamp has looked like this for well over 8 months.

We don't need this lamp for anything in particular so it hasn't been a high priority for me.  Aside from the broken shade, it still worked perfectly.  Some people would have been crafty enough to fix it, but honestly the shade was so old and faded that I was happier to just replace it.  This was still a very easy, inexpensive fix.

Eventually I would like to get a side table for our guest bedroom and put it in there.  For now, it's hanging out in the living room with our new Christmas card books.

Personally I am not a huge fan of pink and like the pink/white contrast instead of all pink.  However, the white is pretty plain.  Maybe it needs some detail or decoration at some point.  I didn't even have to go on a Pinterest lamp shade search to find some awesome lamp shade options this past week just through routine pinning and Pinterest article research.

Did you know that you can dye lampshades really easily?

Unfortunately this is a Tumblr image, not a real tutorial or blog post, but it's still a cute idea.

I am not planning to make this, but it's a great idea.  For those who are interested, there is a detailed tutorial.

This is not from Pinterest but is from Alisa Burke's blog that I read every day.  As always, she is so creative!

What am I planning on doing?  If I do anything, it will probably be something simple that I can Mod Podge and that may involve buttons.

Have you tackled any simple house projects that you were putting off until recently?  Or have you decorated lampshades before?  Share your ideas!

I included this post in Erika's It's a Wrap Link Party 3/5/2012.

  1. I definitely agree, the pink and white is much better contrast than all pink.

I'm sure whatever you do it will look lovely in the end, you have found some adorable shade ideas.

  2. I like the white shade too but if you are planning a particular place for it perhaps a shade that coordinates with other colors in the room. I don't use table lamps - they take up precious real estate on table tops...

  6. Oh, I hope you do something with buttons! That would really personalize the lampshade. I also like the shade with the birds, just because...well, I like birds!

  7. Fun lampshades! I have a few plain ones I found at a yard sale years ago and wanted to embellish with sequins and beaded trim, but haven't actually done so yet.

  8. Those are some great ideas for lamp shades. I would paint the lamp if I did not like the color.

  9. The owls are so cute! I'm always chicken to do anything to a lampshade so I just buy non-plain shades. Someday I'll get brave and attempt to do something myself.

  12. I love the feathers! If you're not sure about painting or doing something that dramatic, a ribbon trim would be easy and cute.

  14. that lamp really moved from "dumpster" to divine! I think it's pretty, just the way it is! Although, if it wasn't too expensive, it might be fun to paint on... {:-D

  15. I saw that peacock feather lampshade on Alisa's blog the other day and it got me thinking. Funny how you never consider actually dressing up something this common with paint! Buttons would be cute for yours, little projects like this are so much fun!
