Halloween decorations preview

As an adult, I have never decorated for Halloween or really any other season or holiday besides Christmas. I'm finally stepping it up this year. I put a couple things together for fall already and am working on a bunch of Halloween goodies for our party later this month.

Do you remember the coffins that I picked up from Michaels for $1 each?
I am making as many Halloween decorations as I can with materials that I already have on hand. I already had this black acrylic paint.

I already had Halloween scrapbook paper.

I already had gold acrylic paint. I need to finish the sides the gold paint and then Mod Podge all of the painted surfaces.

I found a bat template through Pinterest. I played around with the pattern a little to get one larger size. I already had the black card stock and yarn. I did buy two sets of googly eyes from Michaels for $3 each. I have these finished and hung up now, but I'm going to have to figure out how to take a good picture, as they're right in front of our dining room windows.

As a general rule, I don't like cupcakes, but I had some amazing pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting at a baby shower earlier this month. I had a lot of fun making cupcake toppers this summer and am bringing this concept back for some of my own pumpkin cupcakes. I already had the card stock, scrapbook paper, and toothpicks.

I'm borrowing Shannon's Halloween treat bag idea with more of the googly eyes, card stock that I already had, and treat bags that I already had. I made some treat bag toppers earlier this year, which made this process go pretty quickly.

I picked up some unfinished witch hats at 3 for $1 at Michaels. I've covered each side with scrapbook paper that I already have. I'll finish them with Mod Podge and attach ribbons to hang them from the dining room and living room windows.

That's what I have so far! I have a couple other ideas that I may or may not get to during the next week. We still need to hunt down a costume for Jake this week and will probably pick up a couple other items like fake spiderwebs, too.

Are you decorating for Halloween this year? If you have any posts about this topic or tutorials that you've used, feel free to share them in the comments.

  3. Those are some fun decorations -- I like the flying bats!! I put a Halloween section in my fall decorating since Noli made me feel so guilty last year for not having any. It's made up of things that I made back when I was doing ceramics so I didn't spend anything!!!

  4. Cute ideas. The coffins are so fun. We used to decorate for Halloween when the kids were home. Now a few pumpkins is about it for me.

  6. Your decorations are so cool! I was in Michaels yesterday and so many things were on sale but I didn't get anything since it's so late in the year. Maybe next year I'll do some Halloween decorating. You don't like cupcakes? I love them! :)
